Is Toronto Pearson Airport WiFi safe?
What the Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) WiFi is called, what its landing page asks for, and how to check it before you trust it.
Pearson’s free network is “Toronto Pearson Public Wi-Fi”, offered “courtesy of CIBC and Pearson”. Sign-in is accepting the terms and tapping Connect. It is fine for everyday browsing if you pick that exact name; treat it as public WiFi for anything sensitive.
The official Toronto Pearson WiFi network

What the sign-in page should ask for
Pearson’s steps: select “Toronto Pearson Public Wi-Fi”, wait for the landing page, accept the terms and conditions, then select “Connect”. If the landing page does not open, the airport suggests opening your browser and typing a website such as torontopearson.com.
There is no paid tier on the page, so a Pearson sign-in that asks for a card number is a warning sign.
Rule of thumb for any airport: a WiFi sign-in page may ask you to accept terms, watch an ad or enter basic contact details. It should never ask for a card number (unless you chose a paid tier on the official portal), your email password or a bank login.
Lookalike networks
The full official name is Toronto Pearson Public Wi-Fi. Some guides still list an older Toronto Pearson Wi-Fi; you may also see YYZ Free WiFi or Pearson Free WiFi. If one of those shows up next to the official name, pick the official one.
Copycat networks (“evil twins”) work by broadcasting a name that looks trusted, sometimes with a stronger signal than the real one. CISA advises confirming the name of a public hotspot before you use it, so if two similar names appear, ask staff or check the airport’s website.
Good to know at Pearson
- Besides the phone line, Pearson lists Facebook messages and the Passenger Information Booths for Wi-Fi help.
- The sponsor name (CIBC) may appear on the landing page. That is expected; a bank login form is not.
A 5-step check at YYZ
- Join exactly
Toronto Pearson Public Wi-Fi— not a shorter or similar name. - Complete the sign-in page and look at its address: the airport or its WiFi provider, ideally over HTTPS.
- Use apps and sites over HTTPS. If a site you know suddenly shows a certificate warning, stop.
- Keep banking and work logins for a network you have checked, or use mobile data or your company VPN.
- Turn off Auto-Join for this network before you leave, so your phone doesn’t silently rejoin a lookalike later.
