Is Atlanta Airport WiFi safe?
What the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) WiFi is called, what its sign-in page asks for, and how to check it before you trust it.
“ATL Free Wi-Fi” is the airport’s free network and covers almost the whole airport. It’s fine for everyday browsing if you join that exact name and only fill in the basic details the sign-in form asks for. For banking or work, use your company VPN, mobile data or a network you’ve checked.

What the sign-in page should ask for
ATL’s sign-in asks you to fill out the required information and accept the Terms of Use. Give only what the form needs; a name or email is normal, a card number or your email password never is. The airport also notes that corporate VPNs work on the network.
Rule of thumb for any airport: a WiFi sign-in page may ask you to accept terms, watch an ad or enter basic contact details. It should never ask for a card number, your email password or a bank login.
Lookalike networks
The airport publishes ATL Free Wi-Fi. ATL-WiFi, Atlanta Airport Free or Hartsfield WiFi are not on the official page.
Copycat networks (“evil twins”) work by broadcasting a name that looks trusted, sometimes with a stronger signal than the real one. CISA advises confirming the name of a public hotspot before you use it, so if two similar names appear, ask staff or check the airport’s website.
A 5-step check at ATL
- Join exactly
ATL Free Wi-Fi— not a similar name, and not one that appeared after you arrived at the gate. - Complete the sign-in page and look at its address: the airport or its WiFi provider, ideally over HTTPS.
- Use apps and sites over HTTPS. If a site you know suddenly shows a certificate warning, stop.
- Keep banking and work logins for a network you have checked, or use mobile data or your company VPN.
- Turn off Auto-Join for this network before you leave, so your phone doesn’t silently rejoin a lookalike later.
