Is Frankfurt Airport WiFi safe?
What the Frankfurt Airport (FRA) WiFi is called, what its sign-in page asks for, and how to check it before you trust it.
“Airport-Frankfurt” is free and needs no registration, which keeps things simple. Join that exact name, accept the conditions on the sign-in page and use HTTPS. As on any open hotspot, check the network before banking and switch to mobile data if something looks off.

What the sign-in page should ask for
At Frankfurt you choose Wi-Fi Free or Wi-Fi Free+ and press “Go online”, which accepts Fraport AG’s conditions of use. No registration is required, so a page demanding an account or payment for the basic free option does not match the airport’s description.
Rule of thumb for any airport: a WiFi sign-in page may ask you to accept terms, watch an ad or enter basic contact details. It should never ask for a card number, your email password or a bank login.
Lookalike networks
Fraport publishes the hotspot name Airport-Frankfurt. Frankfurt Airport Free, FRA-WiFi or Lufthansa Free WiFi are not on the airport’s page.
Copycat networks (“evil twins”) work by broadcasting a name that looks trusted, sometimes with a stronger signal than the real one. CISA advises confirming the name of a public hotspot before you use it, so if two similar names appear, ask staff or check the airport’s website.
A 5-step check at Frankfurt
- Join exactly
Airport-Frankfurt— not a similar name, and not one that appeared after you arrived at the gate. - Complete the sign-in page and look at its address: the airport or its WiFi provider, ideally over HTTPS.
- Use apps and sites over HTTPS. If a site you know suddenly shows a certificate warning, stop.
- Keep banking and work logins for a network you have checked, or use mobile data or your company VPN.
- Turn off Auto-Join for this network before you leave, so your phone doesn’t silently rejoin a lookalike later.
