Is Walmart Canada WiFi safe?
Walmart Canada offers complimentary in-store WiFi under published terms of use. The terms are clear about risk and about what is collected.
Fine for quick browsing with care. Walmart Canada’s own terms call out the risks of “unsecured wifi” and say the service receives your MAC address, IP address, a device identifier and the real-time location of your device while connected. Use HTTPS and keep banking for mobile data or a checked network.

What the sign-in page should ask for
Walmart Canada’s terms describe clicking to accept them. A Walmart WiFi page that asks for a card number or the password of another account does not match.
Rule of thumb for any public WiFi: a sign-in page may ask you to accept terms, register an email or watch an ad. It should never ask for a card number for free access, your email password or a bank login.
Which network to join
Walmart Canada’s terms do not publish a network name. Ask staff for the exact name, and avoid similar-sounding open networks in the parking lot or mall.
Copycat networks (“evil twins”) broadcast a trusted-looking name, sometimes with a stronger signal than the real one. CISA advises confirming the name of a public hotspot before you use it.
A 5-step check at Walmart Canada
- Ask staff for the exact network name and join only that.
- Complete the sign-in page and look at its address before typing anything.
- Use apps and sites over HTTPS. If a site you know suddenly shows a certificate warning, stop.
- Keep banking and work logins for a network you have checked, or use mobile data.
- Turn off Auto-Join for this network when you leave, so your phone doesn’t silently rejoin a lookalike later.
