Days Until Retirement Calculator
Enter your date of birth and the age you plan to retire. You get the date, and how many days, weeks and working days are left. Nothing you type leaves this page.
How the count works
The calculator adds your retirement age to your date of birth to find the day you reach it. A decimal age works too: 66.5 means 66 years and 6 months. It then counts from today:
- Days left are calendar days, weekends included.
- Weeks left are full weeks only.
- Workdays left are Monday to Friday. Public holidays and paid leave are not taken out, so the line below the number shows roughly how many fewer days you would actually work if you take 25 days off and 10 holidays a year.
If you were born on 29 February, the date falls on 28 February in years that are not leap years.
Common retirement ages
Many people count down to the age their state pension starts. These are the usual ages in a few countries; check your own record, because the rules depend on your birth year.
| Country | Usual age | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 67 | Full Social Security age if you were born in 1960 or later. Reduced benefits can start at 62. |
| United Kingdom | 66 → 67 | State Pension age rises from 66 to 67 between 2026 and 2028. |
| Canada | 65 | CPP and OAS start at 65. CPP can start from 60 (reduced) or as late as 70. |
| Australia | 67 | Age Pension age for anyone born on or after 1 January 1957. |
| Germany | 67 | Standard age for people born in 1964 or later. |
A calendar date is not the same as being free
This page counts down to an age. It does not know whether your money will be ready on that day. Two other numbers answer that:
- The freedom day calculator works out the date your savings could pay your bills, from what you have, save and spend. For many people it is earlier, or later, than their pension age.
- The retirement countdown calculator shows roughly how many days until your savings reach your FIRE number.
If the money date comes before your planned age, you have a choice to make. If it comes after, you know how big the gap is while there is still time to close it.
Maya was born on 15 June 1985 and plans to stop at 67. Her date is 15 June 2052, a little under 26 years away: about 9,360 days. When she put her savings into the freedom day calculator, the money date came out at 61. She now counts down to two dates: the one she is sure of, and the one she is working towards.
Keep the count in view
A number you see once is easy to forget. Some people write it on a calendar, some mark the milestones, and some put it on their phone’s home screen: see how to add a retirement countdown widget.
Questions people ask
How many days until I retire?
Enter your date of birth and retirement age in the calculator above. It shows the date you reach that age and the calendar days, full weeks and Monday-to-Friday workdays from today.
How many working days until retirement?
The calculator counts Monday to Friday between today and your retirement date. It does not take out public holidays or paid leave; with 25 days off and 10 holidays a year you would work about 35 fewer days a year than the number shown.
Can I use a retirement age like 66 and a half?
Yes. Type 66.5 and the calculator adds 66 years and 6 months to your date of birth.
Is my date of birth saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.
What is the difference between this and the freedom day calculator?
This page counts down to an age on the calendar. The freedom day calculator works out when your savings could pay your bills, which can be earlier or later than that age.
