What Ground News does well
Ground News groups articles about the same story and shows how outlets across the political spectrum cover it. On its about page it says it gathers nearly 60,000 articles a day from more than 50,000 sources, uses bias ratings from AllSides, Ad Fontes Media and Media Bias/Fact Check, adds factuality and ownership information, and runs a Blindspot feed for stories one side covers less. It is available on iPhone, Android, the web and as a browser extension.
If left-versus-right is the question you care about, it is built for exactly that.

Alternatives, by the question they answer
- "How do left and right cover this?" AllSides. It rates outlets on a five-point scale from Left to Right and shows stories side by side. It rates perspective, not accuracy. See AllSides vs Ground News.
- "Just summarise my news." Particle. It describes itself as "personalized news, summarized", on the web, iPhone and Android (particle.news).
- "What is the world actually paying attention to?" Whyworld. It starts from public search trends rather than from what outlets publish.
How Whyworld works
- What the world is searching: Whyworld reads public search trends from many countries and builds one list of the day’s biggest topics.
- Why it is trending: each topic gets a short, plain note on why people are looking it up.
- Where: a world map and a country list show where each topic is being searched.
- Sources: every topic links to the reporting behind it, and a Report an error button sits on every topic.
- Two briefs a day: a morning brief at the hour you pick, an evening brief, and an alert when a new topic enters the top 10.
An AI editor picks and explains the topics, and Whyworld says so. Trend data comes from public sources such as Google Trends, Baidu Hot Search and the GDELT Project.
What Whyworld does not do
Whyworld does not give outlets political bias scores, does not rate factuality and has no blindspot feed. It is not a news search engine either: it is a short daily list of what people are looking up, with the why and the where.
