Who is on my WiFi? How to see every connected device

Your phone’s WiFi settings don’t list the other devices on a network. The real list lives in your router. Here is where to find it, and how to read it.

Short answer

Open your router’s app or admin page: that is where the list of connected devices lives. With Google Wifi or Nest Wifi it is in the Google Home app. iPhone and Android Settings show only your own connection. If you see a device you don’t recognise, change the WiFi password and use WPA3 or WPA2/WPA3 security.

Where the device list actually is

Your router’s appMost home routers and mesh systems come with an app that lists connected devices. Look for a section named devices, clients or connected devices (names vary by brand).
Google Wifi / Nest WifiIn the Google Home app you can view the devices connected to your network, including devices that used it in the last 30 days, and open a device to see details such as its IP and MAC address.
Router admin pageType your router’s address (printed on the router or in its manual) into a browser while you are on the network, sign in with the router’s admin password, and open the device or client list.
iPhone / Android SettingsThey show the network you are on and your own phone’s details, not the other devices on the network.

How to see who is on your WiFi from an iPhone

  1. Connect to the WiFi network you want to check.
  2. Open your router maker’s app (or the Google Home app for Google Wifi / Nest Wifi) and sign in.
  3. Open the devices or clients list. Note how many devices there are and which you recognise.
  4. No app? Open the router’s admin address in Safari and sign in with the router admin password, not your WiFi password, unless they are the same.

How to see who is on your WiFi from an Android phone

  1. Connect to the network you want to check.
  2. Open the router app; for Google Wifi or Nest Wifi, open the Google Home app and go to your WiFi devices.
  3. Tap a device to see its details. Google lists information such as the IP address and MAC address.
  4. Or open the router admin page in Chrome and find the connected-device list.

Reading the list: is that device a stranger?

Found a device you don’t recognise?

  1. Change the WiFi password to a long, unique one. Every device has to rejoin, so strangers drop off.
  2. Change the router’s admin password too, if it still uses the default.
  3. Set security to WPA3 Personal, or WPA2/WPA3 Transitional if older devices need it. Apple lists these as the recommended router settings.
  4. Update the router’s firmware. CISA recommends keeping wireless equipment up to date and using strong encryption.
  5. Check the list again the next day.

What apps can see on your local network

Since iOS 14, an iPhone app must ask permission before it can find and connect to devices on your local network. Apple notes that apps can use this to collect information about the devices around you, so only allow it for apps that need it; you can change your answer later in Settings.

How SentryFi helps

Who is on my WiFi? In about 30 seconds SentryFi lists the devices answering on this network by type (phone, computer, TV, printer, router, smart home) and tells you whether they can reach your phone. Pro shows every device by name, IP and type. Home alerts show what joined your home WiFi each time you open the app.

The scan runs on your phone only; the device list, names and IP addresses never leave it. On iPhone, SentryFi asks for local network permission for this feature; if you decline, the rest of the app still works. SentryFi doesn’t change router settings or block devices; for that, use your router’s app.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see who is on my WiFi from my phone’s Settings?

No. iPhone and Android WiFi settings show your own connection. The list of other connected devices is in your router’s app or admin page, or the Google Home app for Google Wifi and Nest Wifi.

How do I kick someone off my WiFi?

Change the WiFi password and use WPA3 or WPA2/WPA3 security, so every device has to rejoin with the new password. Some router apps can also pause or block a single device.

Can someone on my WiFi see what I do?

Someone on the same network can see device-level information and could try to tamper with traffic, but HTTPS sites and apps encrypt the content. That is why a stranger on your network matters: remove them by changing the password.

Why does my device list show devices that are off?

Some lists include recent devices, not only connected ones. Google’s list, for example, can include devices that used the network in the last 30 days.
